History

John N. Causie started Causie Contracting as John Causie Construction in 1966 with three employees, a pick-up, a two-ton truck and three chainsaws. His first projects were tree removal, tree planting, and landscaping and guardrail throughout central Michigan and the Upper Peninsula. In December 1972, Causie Contracting was officially incorporated. Within a few years of incorporating, the company expanded into concrete pavement repair, rotomilling, and small bridge repair. In 1983, Causie Contracting received its first out-of-state project in Byron, Georgia. In 1984, Causie Contracting worked for the first time in Florida. Causie Contracting expanded work into Kentucky in 1991. The following year, Causie Contracting worked in South Dakota for the first time. In 1995, Causie Contracting expanded its operations into South Carolina.

Causie Contracting is family-owned and operated with two of John Causie’s children as the current owners. In 1982, John Causie's eldest daughter, Sheryl Arnett, started at Causie Contracting as a general laborer. She transitioned to Payroll Clerk in 1986 and is now the Chief Financial Officer and Corporate President. John Causie's second daughter, Susan Brooks, was hired as a general laborer in 1985. She is now the corporate Secretary and Fleet Manager. The executive management team includes Dale E. Arnett, John Causie’s son-in-law. In 1973, he was hired as a general laborer. He is currently Causie Contracting's Chief Operations Officer and Chief Estimator.
